Winter is here and your style and choice of clothing have changed to fit the season accordingly. Thick wool, multiple layers, hats, scarves, gloves. You may have taken the time to dress appropriately for the season and to maintain a great style that fits too. Often, though, many of you are simply finishing off your style with the same scent each and every time you walk out the door. Stop now! When you are putting on your cologne have you ever gone beyond the thought of “it smells nice, so it’s getting used”? We hope so but, if you are the sort of guy that puts less thought into your choice of cologne than the toilet paper you pick up at the shop or you just need a little help on what scent you should be wearing during these cooler months, then on keep reading.
The scent that you wear is as important as the tie you put around your neck and the footwear that you slip into. There is an occasion for each aftershave – casual, work, and play for starters but, the season should influence your choice too. There is without doubt fragrances that are more suited to cooler climates and the same is true for the opposite.
So what should you be looking for in a winter cologne? Winter colognes tend to be more woody, musky, more complex and masculine, and less fresh and fruity compared to spring/summer colognes. Often, winter colognes will be heavier and last longer than spring/summer colognes – so you need to apply less.
Hugo Boss – Boss Bottled Intense
The Eau de Parfum fragrance is laden with more woods, spices, and concentration of precious oils than the original BOSS Bottled Intense Eau de Toilette fragrance. Bright apple is tempered by a calmer and more composed green orange blossom. The effect is a fragrance that is less sweet, more luxurious, and emphatically, unapologetically masculine.
This is a perfect daytime winter scent with the fresh apple notes making for wakeful start to the day but with hints of deeper woods coming through making for a subtle rich winter scent.
Ralph Lauren – Black
The hip and edgy men’s fragrance from Ralph Lauren. The scent is an aromatic wood fusion with an intriguing combination that evokes a crisp energy and dark sensuality. Iced mango, silver armoise and patchouli noir generate a fragrance that’s sexy, mysterious and slightly dangerous.
This is great for night engagements, with lasting rich woods that have a sense of deep earthy dark undertones – suiting the bottle it comes in.
Valentino – Uomo
Uomo simply translates as Man in Italian. Our Valentino man is a young Italian heir; he is well mannered, cultured, elegant; one that holds a casual attitude. The Uomo scent is inspired by a specific scene at the end of an aristocratic family lunch, on a huge table set on the terrace of a striking Roman palazzo. The fragrance notes are emanating from the garden of the palazzo, as well as the beverages and desserts that are still on the table after everyone has left.
Another great evening scent. This is more refined woods, a very elegant fragrance for the man.
Versace – Pour Homme Dylan Blue
Highly distinctive with a fragrant woody aroma based on the unique olfactory properties of precious natural ingredients.
New and exquisite qualities of natural citrus, bergamot, and grapefruit combine with modern hints of fig leaf to give an incisive, Mediterranean freshness.
Aquatic notes lend depth and round off the citrus tang. Violet leaves with a dash of black pepper add another virile dimension. But the sophisticated and innovative woody notes of ambrox, papyrus, and organic patchouli form the perfume’s powerful, pulsating heart.
Dylan Blue will is best suited for the daytime wear. Its earthy woods tones are prominent but light, perfect for the office.
Tom Ford – Noir
A new seductive signature fragrance from Tom Ford. Tom Ford Noir is an oriental sensual fragrance that captures the twin facets of the Tom Ford man; the refined, urbane sophisticate who the world gets to see and the intriguingly sensuous, private man that they don’t.
One of our favourite winter cologne. This is an evening scent by all means. Deep, creamy and with hints of wood and spice. It’s a scent for the refined gentleman who appreciates a touch of class. As this is an Eau de parfum be careful on the amount you put on, it’s strong and long-lasting.
Michael Kors – For Men Signature
This fragrance was created with the Michael Kors man in mind – the man who is always on the move, the man who knows how to balance urban sophistication and rugged style. Classic patchouli mixes with deep, unexpected notes-tobacco smoke, soft suede, dried spices, and bergamot- for a decidedly masculine essence.
Another great daytime scent. With spicy notes and not overly complex – this is another great scent for the casual day or for office wear.
